Sagging and restricted flexible ductwork is a common issue across residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC installations throughout Australia. One of the most effective ways to address this is by using a load distributing duct saddle, which increases the contact area between the duct and the support strap.
This approach aligns with Australian duct installation requirements, which call for load distributing supports to prevent deformation of flexible ducts.
By maintaining duct shape and reducing restriction, duct saddles help improve airflow, reduce system strain, and shorten installation time.
Duct Saddle Hanging System – Product Overview

The DS3 Duct Saddle is a one‑piece plastic, load distributing support designed to prevent flexible ducts from being distorted by strapping alone. Its smooth concave shape cradles the duct, reducing compression of the duct.
Key features include:
- Provides up to 930% more surface contact area than strapping alone
- Tested to increase airflow by an average of 30% by reducing kinks, sagging, and friction loss
- Fast, tool‑free installation — suitable for new installs or retrofits
- Compatible with 15–45mm metal and polyweb strapping
- Compliant with AS4254.1:2021 when installed correctly
- Suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC systems

Why Load Distributing Support Matters
Flexible duct supported by strapping alone is prone to kinks and sagging. Over time, this results in: longer system run times, uneven temperatures between rooms and increased wear on HVAC units
Low airflow is one of the leading causes of compressor and blower motor failure.
By distributing the load across a wider surface, duct saddles keep ducts expanded, allowing air to move freely and efficiently.
Real‑World Benefits of Duct Saddle

Manufacturer testing has shown that reducing duct restriction with duct saddles can increase airflow by approximately 30% on average.
To put this into simple terms:
- If a system is designed to achieve 3 air changes per hour
- A 30% airflow improvement allows the same air changes to occur in around 42 minutes instead of 60
- This allows the system to cycle off sooner, reducing energy consumption and lowering utility costs
In many cases, the energy savings can offset the cost of installing duct saddles within the first year of operation.
Benefits Across All HVAC Projects
Using duct saddles delivers advantages for everyone involved:
For the Installer / Contractor:
- Faster installation and retrofitting
- Reduced labour time and site fatigue
- Opportunity to offer airflow upgrades as an added service
For the Customer:
- Improved comfort and more consistent temperatures
- Shorter cycle times and lower energy bills
- Reduced risk of ongoing airflow complaints
For the HVAC System:
- Reduced strain on motors and compressors
- Fewer breakdowns caused by airflow restriction
- Improved long‑term operating efficiency
Fast Installation & Retrofit Friendly Design

Installation steps:
- Lift the air duct and position the Duct Saddle between the strap and the air duct.
- Fix the strap sideways into the centre H-shaped bracket of the Duct Saddle, then slide it until the strap clears the front tongue. Pull the Duct Saddle backwards to firmly attach the hanger to the duct strap support.
- Slide down the Duct Saddle and position at the base of the strap, ready to provide extra support to the air duct.
- Rest the air duct onto the Duct Saddle – and you’re done!
The DS3 Duct Saddle features a patented strap channel, allowing the saddle to be installed after the strapping has already been secured.
This design makes it especially effective for retrofitting older or poorly supported duct systems without removing existing straps.

Strapping and Tape Dispenser
The DS3 Strapping and Tape Dispenser is designed to improve workflow efficiency:
- Keeps strapping organised and off the insulation
- Magnetic roll holder allows quick one‑handed roll changes
- Magnetic tool holder secures scissors or cutters
- Industrial scissors to cut ducting, insulation, tape, and Panduit easily
By reducing movement and re‑handling, technicians spend less time in hot roof spaces and complete installs much faster without having to bend over.
